The lion image includes Sarah’s initials, and the griffin/leopard has the date. The trend of creating and wearing such elaborate quilted petticoats was not wide spread, and seems to be a distinctive, localized production associated with Southeastern Connecticut.

This beautifully detailed quilted petticoat made in 1758 was owned by Sarah Halsey and was a gift to the CHS from the Lyman Allyn Museum, New London.
