Flowers are Blooming!

Summer is right around the corner – the weather is getting warmer, the grass has turned a brighter green, and flowers are popping up in gardens all over the state! Perhaps one of the most amazing Connecticut gardens to view at this time of year is the Rose Garden at Elizabeth Park (Hartford, CT). The garden was created in 1904 by Theodore Wirth and spans just over 2 acres of land, filled with approximately 800 different varieties of roses.

If you have never witnessed the beauty of Elizabeth Park, this coming weekend is the perfect time to plan a visit. Each year, when the roses are in full bloom, Elizabeth Park celebrates its Rose Garden with the Rose Festival. This year the Rose Festival takes place on Sunday, June 15th! Visitors can walk the gardens, stop at local vendor and Connecticut organization tables, and enjoy lunch and music. It is a great time!

If you and the family decide to come out for the Rose Festival, make sure to stop at CHS’s  table – we will have lots of information about CHS and our current exhibits and programs AND we will have all the supplies for kids – or adults – to decorate their own paper towel vase and then fill them with paper flowers!

See you there!
